Established as San Antonio’s premiere alternative and indie-oriented annual music event, Maverick Music Festival announces a formal partnership between festival organizers, Galaxy Presents LLC, and another established success in the city’s music scene, the Tobin Center for Performing Arts. Held at La Villita Historic Arts Village, the annual Maverick Music Festival attracts thousands of locals and visitors, from all over, to downtown San Antonio. With a united goal of spotlighting, propelling and sustaining a music scene that is a major crux, capable of generating and shaping downtown development, this partnership is exciting for all.
“We’re excited to be partnering with the world’s number one theater of its size, The Tobin Center. Its leadership, under President and CEO Mike Fresher, have fundamentally revolutionized the music economy in San Antonio in only two short years. Their efforts in our community have placed our city at the forefront of a new era of economic development, led by the art communities, while attracting unprecedented interest in San Antonio from visitors, young professionals, and corporations alike,” states Blayne Tucker, Founder of Maverick Music Festival. “We look forward to working with them as partners and taking Maverick Music Festival to the next level as San Antonio’s major music festival.”
An all-ages music event, the 5th Annual Maverick Music Festival will be on April 7 - 8, 2017. The official festival line up will be announced at the end 2016. Past festivals have included artists such as The Flaming Lips, CAKE, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Run the Jewels, Gary Clark Jr., Psychedelic Furs, Phantogram, Twin Shadow, The Tuneyards, The Church, The Drums, Reverend Horton Heat, The Toadies, WAVVES, Best Coast, SZA, Roky Erickson, The Joy Formidable, and The Black Angels. The festival also spotlights the best musical artists from San Antonio, which have included Girl in a Coma, Piñata Protest and Lonely Horse. This year’s festival will bring a full lineup of nationally recognized talent to San Antonio that will proudly expand the downtown footprint.
“We are pleased to be a part of this cultural asset, Maverick Music Festival.” adds Mike Fresher, President and CEO of The Tobin Center. “Maverick has primed itself to be a major player in the national music scene and there is no doubt that with support from the city and community of San Antonio, Maverick Music Festival will grow itself into a major destination music festival for visitors from all around the world.”.
