Phenomenal solo singers will perform along with a full choir in elegant, colorful and traditional mariachi trajes and outfits that help give new meaning to a centuries-old musical legacy.
Featured vocalists include Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition winners Kassandra Juárez from Rio Grande City, Brooke Talk from New Braunfels, Kamryn Ramírez and Christina López from McAllen, Victoria Rosa and Francisco García from Roma and Jizelle Rodríguez from Kyle.
These powerful, award-winning artists join dozens more talented youth from throughout the U.S. who convene in San Antonio each year to study with master instructors in a summer mariachi camp that runs June 19-23. The camp culminates in a spectacular showcase that celebrates la música mexicana like never before! Anyone who has never experienced mariachi music at this level will certainly walk away from this presentation with a newfound appreciation for this rich cultural tradition.
San Antonio’s Mariachi Extravaganza Summer Camp is produced by MPR, producers of the annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza music festival held each year in December. Master instructors include mariachi/opera singer Octavio Moreno, award-winning mariachi vocalists Vanessa Alonso, Mariachi Vargas vocalist and violinist José “Pepe” Martínez, Jr., New York-based actress and vocalist Christina Maxwell and local mariachi musician and vocalist Debra Torres.
Warning: The cultural pride exuded during this very special evening is contagious!
