In 2014, Storm Large and her band, Le Bonheur, released a record that captures their inspiring and subversive interpretations of the American Songbook. It is a collection of tortured and titillating love songs; beautiful, familiar, yet twisted…much like the lady herself.
Storm Large cartwheeled out of the gutter of her checkered past across a thousand punk rock stages and into her infamously googled stint on the CDS Rock n’ Roll reality series Rock Star: Supernova. From there she went on to tour the world, singing in 17 different languages, and only behaving herself somewhat, as vocalist for the joyful little pop orchestra Pink Martini.
This route lead to Storm Large to Carnegie Hall singing Kurt Weill with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed at the Gilmore Festival with pianist Kirill Gerstein, at the Ojai Festival with The Knights and at the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago. She has appeared with The New York Pops Orchestra, The Cincinnati Symphony, The Houston Symphony, Ireland’s RTE Concert Orchestra in Dublin and with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. among many other ensembles.
Storm Large is not only a musician but also an actor, playwright, and author. Her award-winning one-woman show, Crazy Enough, broke every box office record at Portland Center Stage in 2010. In 2012, she detailed her wild life in a memoir of the same title released through Simon and Schuster. The book was named Oprah’s Book of the Week and awarded the 2013 Oregon Book Award for creative non-fiction. She is currently co-writing a new musical for The Public Theater in New York City and continues to tour with Pink Martini.
