YOSA Philharmonic joins forces with the San Antonio Mastersingers for an evening of chorus and orchestra celebrating one of music's most enduring themes: the power and beauty of nature.
Gabriela Ortiz’s Kauyumari opens the night by conjuring the sacred blue deer of indigenous Mexican lore, while Alexander Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances pulses with the elemental energy of Central Asian nomads, music that has stirred audiences for over a century.
The evening culminates in a world premiere of a new choral-orchestral work by YOSA Music Director Troy Peters, setting nature-inspired poetry by Julie Cadwallader-Staub to music for the very first time.
Rounding out the night, 2026/27 YOSA Concerto Competition winner takes the stage in a showcase of rising young talent, and YOSA Concertino Strings makes an appearance.
Repetoire Includes:

YOSA changes lives by providing shared musical experiences that unlock possibility and foster
belonging for youth of all backgrounds. Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA) has eleven
orchestras that serve young musicians including two advanced orchestras, wind ensemble, flute
choir, mariachi, and six levels of strings.
YOSA’s most advanced orchestra is comprised of the very best young musicians in the San
Antonio area. The YOSA Philharmonic, conducted by Troy Peters, performs professional-level
repertoire in premier venues, collaborating regularly with internationally renowned soloists and
composers.
The most advanced of YOSA’s six string orchestras, YOSA Concertino Strings, is conducted by
Kenneth Freudigman and offers young musicians across San Antonio the opportunity to
perform great masterpieces of string repertoire, from the Baroque era to today.
YOSA provides transformative music experiences to more than 2,500 young musicians ages 8-
20 through YOSA Orchestras, YOSA Summer Symphony Camp, and YOSA School Partnerships.
YOSA connects motivated young musicians together and provides a world-class experience that
helps youth grow creatively, academically, and socially. YOSA envisions a community where all
musically inclined youth in San Antonio have a chance to pursue their interests and maximize
their potential. YOSA seeks ways to remove financial and social barriers to high-quality music
education and designs its activities around this purpose.
YOSA changes kids’ lives through music.
The mission of San Antonio Mastersingers is to provide the community with life-enriching
experiences through choral performances that engage the audience, challenge the singers,
raise funds for worthy charities, and provide inspirational, educational, and moving musical
opportunities for concert-goers.
Currently under the artistic leadership of Music Director Dr. Yoojin Muhn, the San Antonio
Mastersingers were the FIRST symphonic choir established in the state of Texas. Formed in
1944 and 120-voices strong, the Mastersingers bring highly acclaimed performances to the city
of San Antonio and are firmly planted as a major contributor to the rich choral tradition in the
state.
