Chamber Connexions | The Teacher as Artist

The Teacher as Artist is built around a simple idea: the artist faculty are at the heart of the TOSA model.

This concert brings The Orchestra San Antonio’s Artist Faculty to the stage with Andrés Cárdenes, one of the major violinist-pedagogues of his generation. The program is designed to show the faculty not only as teachers, but as active performing artists whose own musicianship shapes the work they do with students.

rdenes joins Artist Faculty in Dvořák’s G major String Quintet and coaches the ensemble in Mendelssohn’s Octet, one of the great works in the string chamber music repertoire. The concert closes with Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro, conducted by Eliezer Anteliz with Cárdenes leading from the concertmaster chair.

The project also functions as a short residency, giving students and faculty direct access to Cárdenes as a performer, coach, and mentor — a clear public expression of what makes The Orchestra San Antonio’s education and work distinctive.
